FAQ
My dog doesn’t run well on a leash.
Surprisingly enough, most dogs figure this out pretty quickly. Our experience has taught us how to gently bring each dog around to be a great on-leash runner.
My dog has never done anything like this before - can they handle it?
our first visit we find out all kinds of information about the dogs we run to make sure that their exercise program fits their needs exactly. If the dog is out of shape or just a newbie to this type of exercise we start out slow and let them build up their strength and endurance at their own pace.
Where do you run?
It depends. We like to keep things interesting for the dogs so we try not to run the same area all the time. if possible. We do a mix of different running routes that we map out around your neighborhood, parks & hiking trails. If you live in an area where running is not safe, due to high traffic or lack of sidewalks, we’ll be headed somewhere close by that has better conditions. We also try to avoid hunting area’s in hunting season.
What about weather?
As long as the weather does not pose a threat to dog or runner we are out there in it. Dogs are great at generating heat during cold weather (We do require jackets for some breeds. This is discussed at sign-up). Hot weather is another thing. Dogs can overheat easily, which is why we act accordingly with planned breaks and cooling times. It is very common for hot weather runs to be somewhere near a body of water like a lake or river so the dogs can cool off. We take great care to stay educated on the best dog-running strategies in all weather. Weather that can affect sessions are things like lightning, dangerous winds and ice.
How far do you usually run?
Some dogs have to start with a mile or two, but most dogs run anywhere from 3.5-7 miles depending on how long their appointment is, their level of fitness and the weather.
Do you come get my dog? Do I leave you a key?
It is normal practice for our customers to leave us a spare key in order for us to pick up and drop off their pets for them. Other options include leaving your pet in an accessible and safe area, like a fenced in back yard, leaving us a lockbox with your key in it, or dropping off and picking up your pup at the designated area on time.
What happens if there is an emergency while you are with my dog?
We are fully insured by Pet Sitters Associates, LLC for all medical emergencies we also carry full canine first aid kits to treat little stuff ourself’s
